25/05/08 - Motueka to Nelson

Cycle: 52km

Yay, Nelson day! We were both really looking forward to going to Nelson as we'd heard a lot about it and all good things, such as "it's the best place in the World"!

Before we left town though we had to call into the White Elephant again to pick up the $20 key deposit I had forgotten to collect three days ago, woops. We got it back though. The cycle ride to Nelson was really nice, we spent a lot of it right on the Tasman Bay Coast and as it was another clear day the views over the sea were lovely. We also cycled through quite a lot of orchard land, again, very pretty. The Braeburn is on season right now and there were stalls selling huge bags of them really cheaply dotted along the road.

The only stop of the day was at the Grape Escape to sample the carrot cake recommended to us by Tom, our kayak guide. It was good. It was warm enough to sit outside and there was a lady playing the piano and singing in the garden area too. Very sophis as Frances would say. We had a great time relaxing with the sun on our backs but finally peeled ourselves off the picnic bench and plonked ourselves back on the saddles. The last 20km or so into Nelson was on a typically erratic psychopath (cycle path) but took us alongside the picturesque harbour. We found our bed for the night at Accents on the Park which was super and more like a hotel than a hostel. Very arc deco and clean. We liked this place.

Tonight we summoned all our energy to go out and see the latest Indian Jones flick - we'd been singing the theme tune all the way up the West Coast and had been looking forward to seeing it for weeks.
