01/04/08 - Queenstown

Cycle: 0km, again!

We slept well and it was a really mild night. We went straight to the supermarket for cereal to have with the milk we bought yesterday. We got a box of Milo cereal, found a clean kitchen in Creeksyde and ate the whole box! What pigs we are! Then Ron, the Israeli cyclist wandered in and we chatted for a while and decided to meet at 4 o'clock for a luge race.

It was a rainy day so we did more rainy day jobs, slowly! We also called into Kathmandu to get Scott some thermals as they had 3 for 1 offer of polyprops - brilliant! Of course we ended up getting more bits and bobs - socks, a new tea towel, a sewing kit and most excitingly (no, really) new towels and this time in medium rather than small!! We then did a bit more log updating and photo backing up before heading to the luge race meet point.

Sadly the poor weather meant that the luge wasn't running so instead we went to the supermarket to buy all our food for the Routeburn Track. This time we followed DOCs advice and have plenty of cured meat and cheese to look forward to!

Back in the camp site we had our dinner and cheap red wine and got chatting to a family from Cambridge - Nigel, Sara and 4 year old Callum. We had a great night with them drinking (they were on the same cheap red and fed us beer kindly afterwards), talking and playing soldiers and castles. Nigel was a former trader and was considereing working for Bloomberg! Once they had gone to bed we chatted to two funny Kiwi motorbike riders from the Northland who were 'doing' the South Island in one week - what a difference an engine makes! We reluctantly went out into the cold for beddy-byes in the tent...
