Rest Day
Despite the efforts of Hiromi, the hostel manager, to get us to cycle to Farewell Spit we were only capable of lying down today! The kayaking tired us out enough and so we opted out of all activities bar reading and eating! We didn't set an alarm and so got up just in time for the supplied breakfast. In the kitchen we bumped into four Chinese girls we stayed with at Beaconstone, on the West Coast. There was also a very dribbly dog called Joy who came and left a bit of spittle on my knee! Back in our room the hostel cat, Somerset, also paid a visit as we had a heater and I had a comfy lap for him.
As it turned out we couldn't have explored the Spit as the tides times were wrong and the hostel closed tomorrow for the winter...some things are not meant to be. Instead, we did a bit of blogging and a lot of reading but not a lot else to report. All good recovery and after even one day of this we felt ready to get back on the bikes and over Takaka Hill again.
