Cycle: 47km
Boy, did we need our sleep last night! We woke bleary eyed to a campsite devoid of the school children and most other tourists as they were already on their adventure for the day. We had a very leisurely breakfast (two hot drinks, always a sign you're relaxed) and then Scott swung into organisational mode and grabbed all our maps in a mad fit of planning. We planned each day for the next five weeks, to include three Great Walks, if we can book them.
By 1pm we were ready to leave for our day in Mount Cook Village! We arrived on another glorously sunny day and went to the Hermitage for supplies (bizarrely the cheapest place to stock up) and to book the Great Walks. At $2 for 8 minutes this was the priciest yet - we had a fab view of the mountains though! We managed to book the Kepler and Routeburn but the Milford track was fully booked for forever. Scott began to sink into a depression that I soon learnt was actually hunger and severe leg ache from yeterdays walk and that his fit of planning was just a cunning ploy to escape further walking today! To treat the depression we ahd a beer with a spiffing view and sacked off the walking for the day, pedalling back to camp instead.
Back at camp we bumped into Josua again and got to know another cycle touer, Julian, a little better. So, an easy day but with some useful planning. We can now let Tim and Cindy know when we'll be at Stewart Island.
