14/02/08 - Wellington to Picton

Cycle: 6km

After a patchy night's sleep neither of us could face our planned walk up Mount Victoria and also the wind was still gale-like and I wouldn't have wanted to hang around up there. We'll do it on our way back up...

We avoided the kitchen again by getting a supermarket breakfast and fetched Scott's newly trued wheel. We packed up, did some internetting and caught the 1 o'clock ferry to Picton. The ride was cool, we stood out on deck for the last hour as we cruised through the Queen Charlotte Sound. The coolest bit was riding off the ferry straight onto the South Island!

We had booked (after our Welly experience) to camp in a hostel in Picton called the Jugglers Rest. It was awesome, clean and homely. On arrival they booked us a ferry for tomorrow morning so that we could get to the start of the Queen Charlotte Track. At three days it will be our longest tramp yet!
