Cycle: 22km
Despite all the cycling we're doing tramping obviously uses different muscles as our legs ached so much that they woke us up when we rolled over in bed! We waddled round the campsite cooking breakfast and packing up our belongings before heading off downhill, with Ohakune, New Zealands carrot capital, our goal.
We hadn't even left the campsite befoer Scott stopped and requested 2 ginger nut biscuits. Then 30m further down the road he requested another 2. Then another 4 before being ready for his downhilll cycle. Not a good sign! We did the trip down to the main road in a fraction of the time it took us to pedal up but it was still windy adn we had to pedal to keep going downhill.
Back on SH 47 Scott spotted some very lose spokes on his newly tensionsed back wheel and was very cross. We stopped for a maintanance break but on the up side were right next to a Warning Kiwi road sign.
A few more k's down the road I needed a comfort stop so we pulled in to National Park Station Cafe which was awesome. A train load of passengers on their way to Wellington came in for lunch triggered our grey matter...over our lunch break we formulated a cunning plan to end our cycling for the day here, book our canoe trip from here and get the train from here to Wellington!
So that we did. Booked our canoe trip, set up tent in a nice hostel (maybe the way forward, better facilities than campsites) and got a hot tub to boot. We'd only cycled 20km!
