03/01/08 - Auckland to Thames

Cycle: 67.7km

We just made it to the dock in time, feeling a bit tired. We were lucky enough to sit next to two interesting, and very well travelled, ladies on the ferry to Coromandel Town. They kept us entertained for the whole two hours and we were back on the bikes before we knew it!

The ride down to Thames was really enjoyable. Our legs felt fresh and the hills, which we had once been intimidated by, felt easy. We must be getting fitter! On the way we stopped at Tapu for a break from the heat.

We cruised in to Thames and camped at the Dickson Holiday Park again. The owner is a bit of a cyclist (albeit a miserable cyclist) who told us "how to stay alive" on the way to Waihi the next day! We'd felt great all day, but hunger kicked in and food became an immediate necessity! Fish and chips were the order of the day - we fell straight back in to the pattern of big meals!

Today wasn't a particularly special day, but it was brilliant to get back on the road!
