Cycle: 62.1km
We chose a fine day to start our New Zealand cycling adventure! The rain was pouring; the wind was driving into our faces; the hills were significant! Still, it thoroughly tested our kit, and we arrived at our campsite at Orere Point feeling very virtuous.
On the way we stopped at Clevedon and had a great coffee and cake at the 'With Relish' delicatessan while we dried ourselves a little a psyched ourselves up for the next leg of our journey. Once we'd got out of the urban area the scenary was beautiful, although we were surprised how hilly it was! Hopefully it's true what people have been saying to us: "The North Island is more hilly than the South Island!" - the South Island has the beautiful mountains, but you don't have to ride up them!
When we set in for the night, we were feeling safe and secure - both in our environment and with the adventure we're embarking on!
